Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermannwere married on August 28, 2004 at the Unitarian Society in Santa Barbara, California. The 200 guests in attendance included Jodie Foster, Hilary Swankand Chad Lowe.
The bride arrived at the church in a vintage Jaguar with her father, Mickey Hargitay. She walked down the aisle in a pale pink Carolina Herrera strapless gown, with the groom’s initials and wedding date sewn into the side of the dress. In honor of her family, she wore a locket with pictures of her late mother, Jayne Mansfield, as well as her late grandmother. She held a bouquet of pale roses, gardenias and lilies of the valley, and her hair was pulled back and pinned with roses and gardenias. The groom wore a black Dolce & Gabbana suit with a salmon colored tie.
The couple exchanged vows, followed by an E.E. Cummings poem read by Mickey Hargitay. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a gospel choir sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
A reception was held at a Mediterranean estate in nearby Montecito. Event designer Yifat Oren decorated the grounds with votive candles and hurricane lamps filled with dahlias, chocolate-colored cosmos and hydrangeas. The couple posed for wedding photos, as they walked through a vine-covered arbor and stood at a swan-filled pond outlined in rose petals.
They shared their first dance on a mahogany dance floor to “Over the Rainbow” before being seated for dinner. The menu included arugula salad with crispy pancetta disks and seared Alaskan halibut with tomato-basil relish. For dessert, Very Different Cakes created a seven-foot tall, six-tier chocolate and vanilla cake topped with the couple’s initials made out of Swarovski crystals.
